NIJ STUDENTS LAMENT OVER EXAMINATION DATE
By Aigbadumah Isaac
Following an announcement which was made on Monday 24 January, 2022 as regards the commencement of the first semester examinations, feelings of distress have rocked the four walls of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, Lagos, as students have made complaints to some members of faculty.
The announcement about the exams which would begin on Monday 21 February, 2022 was disseminated by the class governors of the various programmes of the institution, through the management, and has received negative reactions from some students and members of staff.
Speaking to Ayodeji Akande, a recently admitted Post Graduate student, she claimed that the examination date is too close considering the fact that herself and a few others had just resumed classes in the school and they still have a lot to cover, from assignments to tests and presentations.
Ayodeji also claimed that some of the newly admitted students are yet to complete their registration process. She pleaded that the school puts them into consideration and postpone the examination.
A member of staff, while speaking after one of their classes asked that the class governors go plead with the school management to postpone the exam because of the newly admitted students.
The staff further went on to express their uncertainty of the success of the newly admitted students in the exam, due to the limited time they have to cover up before the examinations commence.
Sources close to the school management have claimed that the school is running behind schedule especially due to the 1-month Christmas break in December, and may not be able to afford postponing the exams.
